The
Metro Theatre
624 George Street
SYDNEY NSW 2000
AUSTRALIA
The Metro is located in Sydneys cinema district and is only moments
from the heart of the city, it is easily accessible by all forms of
transport, although street parking can be a real bastard, however,
there are parking stations close by if you are willing to cough up
some cash. It would have to one of Sydneys best places to catch a
band (Me, I say THE best), the main room named "The Forum"
holds around 1000, with a wooden dance floor area for around 300 and
then metre deep tiered levels leading up to a bar for the rest, I'm
not sure you could find a place where you'd have a bad view, but no
doubt someone, somewhere at sometime has had a bitch that they couldn't
see. There is a smaller more intimate room called the 'Roma Room'
which holds around 350 and also has it's own bar. There also is a
bar in the foyer that most concert goers gather in for pre-bash drinks,
it's a great meeting place however I'm sure I'm not the only one that
thinks the plastic encased drinks are a little expensive......don't
we pay enough to see the band already????

The
Annandale Hotel
Parramatta Rd (cnr Nelson St)
Annandale 2038
The Annandale Hotel is a great pub with an ace band room. While it's
a lounge bar by day, come nightfall it's a band room on most nights
of the week and Sunday afternoons. With a raised lounge area up the
back, plenty of standing room in front (can be tables and chair, it
depends on the show), a bar that runs the length of the room and a chilled
atmosphere, this is truly a great place to catch well known acts through
to up and coming local bands. If you want to have a feed before the
show, the Thai in a Box noodle bar is now on site and worth a try. It's
fairly accessible by public transport, mainly by bus, though you could
get the train but you'd be looking at a fair walk, however, street parking
is in abundance (I can almost feel the glare of the locals...).

Hordern
Pavilion
You could hardly call yourself a Sydneysider if you have never been
to the Hordern Pavillion. It's the last frontier before you take that
step into the live gig abyss that is stadium concerts. It holds approximately
5000 and can either be standing room only or seating and dance floor,
there's no real obstructions from the view, accept of course the sound
and lighting guys that are always smack bang in the middle of the floor,
however, those at the back can hardly boast of eye to eye contact with
those on stage and most go home with sore feet from all that tippy toeing
to get those few extra inches to try and look around that big bastard
that always stands directly in front of you, where do they
come from? Once again we've got over priced drinks in small plastic
cups, but that's all part of it, I guess. Ah the Hordern, so many memories,
most of them blurred!!
